Hello. My name is Troy MacArthur and I am the coach for the East Hants Stingrays. I have almost 40 years of swimming and lifeguarding experience. My swimming started with the Cape Breton Dorados. I was a competitive swimmer for eight years. I swam for the Cape Breton Dorados and Halifax Trojans.
My swimming career led me down the path of lifeguarding – which I started when I was sixteen. I was employed by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service for the next twenty-three years!
The leadership skills that were foundational to my swimming career were starting to exert themselves when I stepped onto the beaches of Nova Scotia. It wasn’t long before I found the chlorine calling me back. It was very fitting when I joined the Dorados as an assistant coach in 1996. I was able to take my love of swimming along with the refined leadership skills of lifeguarding and put them together in influencing the lives of younger swimmers. I worked as an assistant coach for a couple of years, proving myself and my abilities, before the club took a chance and made me the head coach.
I thought that I needed big club experience. I made the decision to leave the Dorados and move to Halifax where I was an assistant coach with the Halifax Trojans. I coached with the Trojans for two years before joining the Sackville Waves Aquatic Team as an assistant coach.
I am currently also a teacher. I have been a teacher for over twenty years and have been quite successful with that career.
I started with the Stingrays in June of 2022. When the opportunity to rejoin the Stingrays came available through winter maintenance, I jumped in with both feet – literally!
My name is Rosalyn Tate. I love staying active and I do that through competitive swimming as well. I became involved in swimming when I was 9 and a friend told me I should try out for a competitive swim team. Since then, I've been swimming competitive winter seasons with the Dartmouth Crusaders for 7 years.
I got into coaching this year, when a coach and a friend who also coaches, suggested that I would be a good fit for coaching.
I can't wait to join the Stingrays, and I know this summer is going to be awesome!
